Mavs Test Bowling Green in CCHA Series

Nebraska-Omaha packs its bags once again for a CCHA road trip this weekend. The Mavericks will play their final league series for a month when they play Friday and Saturday at Bowling Green. Game time each night is 6:05.

The games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM, with the pre-game show beginning 30 minutes before faceoff. Greg Harrington will call the action, with Terry Leahy providing color commentary.

The Mavericks head into play at Bowling Green with a 4-7-4 overall record and a 3-6-1 mark in the CCHA. Bowling Green is 3-10-1 on the season and 1-7-0 in the league.

Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp is in his 10th season as the Maverick head coach. Kemp is a 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Duluth, Minn., native is 148-178-41 at UNO overall and has n 80-96-30 record in the CCHA. Kemp is 11-8-2 vs. the Falcons. Scott Paluch is in his fifth season behind the Bowling Green bench with a record of 51-92-19 overall. The 1994 BGSU graduate is 5-4-1 vs. the Mavericks.

UNO holds an 11-8-2 edge in the all-time series against Bowling Green. BG won last year's regular season meetings, but the Mavericks won twice in the first round of the CCHA playoffs the last time the teams met. The Falcons hold a 3-2-1 advantage in games played at Bowling Green.

The Mavericks had a non-conference tie before splitting their weekend series with Notre Dame. Scott Parse's goal midway through the third period lifted the Mavericks into a 4-4 deadlock at Minnesota State, Mankato on Tuesday. The tie ended a five-game losing streak. Notre Dame jumped out front with a goal just 65 seconds into the game Friday, built a 3-0 lead, then held off a third period Mav rally for a 4-2 win. The loss extended UNO's CCHA losing skid to six and the overall winless streak to eight (0-6-2). Saturday night defenseman Juha Uotila's power play goal at 17:44 gave the Mavericks a 3-2 win. The Fighting Irish took a 1-0 lead, but UNO tied the game on a Bryan Marshall goal 1:35 later in the first period. UNO claimed a 2-1 lead on Mark Bernier's first career goal 1:05 into the third, but the Irish tied on a power play goal at 4:28. Freshman goaltender Jeremie Dupont turned aside 25 shots for the Mavericks.
Coming Up
The Mavericks will play four non-conference games the rest of December, returning home to host Bentley on Friday, Dec. 8 and Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Qwest Center. After a nearly three-week break over Christmas, UNO will travel to Princeton on Dec. 29 and Yale on Dec. 30. UNO resumes CCHA play Jan. 5-6 at Lake Superior State.
