Mavs Win Lucky 7 Against Adams State

DENVER -- The University of Nebraska-Omaha women's basketball team ran its win streak to seven games, defeating Adams State for the second time this year, 93-54, at the Comfort Inn Downtown Classic hosted by Metro State Friday afternoon.
Five Mavericks scored in double figures, led by Ashley Freerksen with 16, followed closely by Cayla Hargrove and Ellen Majewski with 14 each. Majewski's 14 was a new career high. Hargrove, Carlye Jones and Alyssa Green tied for the team lead in rebounds with six each.
A 3-point basket by Karen Thies five minutes into the game gave UNO (11-1) a 15-8 advantage. The Mavericks gradually increased their lead to 15 at halftime, 42-27.
UNO opened the second half with a 14-2 run, highlighted by two 3-pointers by Majewski, extending the lead to 27 points. The Mavericks never trailed by less than 20 from that point on.
Thies finished with 12 points, with Lacey Geitzenauer adding 10. Ashley Chambers led the Grizzlies (3-8) with 13 points.
The Mavericks will take on tournament host Metro State, ranked 15th in the Dec. 17 Division II USA Today/ESPN poll, tomorrow at 4 p.m. Central time.
