Mavs Score 97 for Shearer's 100th

University of Nebraska-Omaha women's basketball coach Patty Patton Shearer won her 100th game as a collegiate coach Sunday afternoon, as her Mavericks won in dominant fashion again, defeating Hawaii-Hilo 97-61 in the DoubleTree Classic at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Six players scored in double figures, led by Ashley Freerksen's 19, helping UNO improve to 6-1 on year and its highest point total of the season. Freeksen also led the Mavs with eight rebounds.
Karen Thies scored 18, followed by Lacey Geitzenauer with 15, Alyssa Green with 12, Ashley Nelson with 11 and Cayla Hargrove with 10. UNO shot 48.6 percent from the field, also going 15-of-16 on free-throw attempts.
UNO's defense held the Vulcans (0-5) to 37.3 percent shooting and only two free-throw attempts, as the Mavericks committed only six personal fouls for the game.
Krystlelyn Omlan led Hawaii-Hilo with 14 points. Sheila Azevedo added 11 points and 13 rebounds for her fifth-straight double-double.
Shearer looks for win No. 101 when the Mavericks return to action Tuesday night at 6 against Peru State at Sapp Fieldhouse. That game will be followed by a men's contest with York College at 8.
