No. 16 Metro State Ends Mavs' Win Streak

DENVER -- The University of Nebraska-Omaha women saw its seven-game win streak come to end as No. 16 Metro State handed the Mavericks their second loss of the season, 88-68, in the finale of the Comfort Inn Holiday Classic Saturday night.
The Mavericks (11-2) saw four players reach double-figures in scoring, led by Karen Thies and Cayla Hargrove with 14 each. UNO shot a respectable 43 percent for the night, but the Mavs couldn't keep pace with the Roadrunners (10-2) who hit an even 50 percent, including 48 percent from 3-point range.
Metro State opened the game with an 8-1 run, later rolling off a 10-0 run, streaking to a 50-31 halftime advantage. With 3:36 remaining in the first half, the Roadrunners held a 26-point advantage, but seven points from Hargrove helped UNO reduce that deficit.
The second half was a more even affair, but the Mavericks were unable to cut into the lead.
Cassondra Bratton led the Roadrunners with 17 points, adding six rebounds.
UNO's next action will be its North Central Conference opener at Augustana, Thursday at 6 p.m.
