Mavs Dominate Again, Defeat York 80-39

The University of Nebraska-Omaha improved to 8-1 on the season, blowing out York College 80-39 Saturday night at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Karen Thies led the Mavericks in scoring for the seventh time in nine games, this time pouring in 21 points, adding six rebounds. Ashley Freerksen contributed 12, with seven boards. UNO got 30 points off the bench, led by Cayla Hargrove with eight.
Alyssa Green and Hargrove tied for the team lead in rebounds with eight each, as UNO pulled down an astonishing 61 boards on the game, against 43 for the Panthers.
A lot of rebounds means a lot of missed shots. The Mavericks hit on 43.5 percent of their tries for the game, after only 35.3 percent in the first half. York (5-8) was held to 20.5 percent on the game, after shooting only 12.9 percent in the first half. The score at intermission was 39-14 in favor of the Mavericks.
The 39 points by York tied for the lowest total allowed by the Mavericks since giving up 25 to College of St. Mary in the 2000-01 season. UNO gave up 39 twice in the 2004-05 season, to William Penn and Peru State.
Ashley Wellman led York with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
UNO will have a week off for final exams, returning to action in Milwaukee, facing Mt. Mary, next Saturday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m.
