UNO Holds Off Northern Michigan, 2-1

MARQUETTE, Mich.--Nebraska-Omaha extended its unbeaten streak to a season-high six games with a 2-1 victory over Northern Michigan at the Berry Events Center Friday night.
UNO (16-11-4, 10-9-4 CCHA) snapped a four-game winless streak on the Wildcats' home ice and won its first game at NMU since March 12, 2000.
Nebraska-Omaha jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Brandon Scero and Scott Parse. Scero scored on a wrist shot from between the circles at the 5:28 mark. Parse then added to his nation-leading point total when he scored his 52nd point of the season with 1:43 remaining in the period after pounding home a rebound on the power play.
Northern Michigan cut the lead in half and scored the only goal of the second period when Nathan Sigmund scored at the 6:04 mark.
Both teams skated a wide open third period but UNO goaltender Jerad Kaufmann and NMU netminder Bill Zaniboni each held their ground. Kaufmann, the game's No. 1 star, had 27 saves in the game to improve his record to 13-7-4. The Wildcats outshot the Mavs 28-25 in the contest.
UNO killed off all four NMU power plays and finished 1-for-7 in man-advantage opportunities.
Nebraska-Omaha will meet Northern Michigan in the series finale on Saturday night. Faceoff is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
