Mavs Play Bulldogs on the Road Saturday

The Mavericks will play at Minnesota Duluth Saturday afternoon in the front end of a home-and-home series with the Bulldogs. Game time is at 1 p.m., with the contest broadcast this game only on KOIL, 1020 AM, with air time at 12:50 p.m.

UNO is 16-10 overall this season and is 2-7 in NCC games. The Mavericks have lost three straight games. Minnesota Duluth is 16-8 and 3-6. Minnesota Duluth has won all four meetings with the Mavericks. Last year, the Bulldogs won 72-49 in Omaha and 67-50 in Duluth in back-to-back games.

The Mavericks dropped road contests at St. Cloud State, 78-53, and Minnesota State, 76-67. Lacey Geitzenhauer led UNO with 11 points in the first game. In the second, MSU came from behind in the closing minutes and iced the game at the free throw line. Ashley Freerksen scored 16 points to lead UNO and Karen Thies had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Coaching Staff
Head Coach Patty Patton Shearer is beginning her second season as the head coach at UNO and has a 30-24 mark. Overall in five seasons in college she is 90-73 She compiled a 60-49 record over four seasons at Fort Lewis College before becoming UNO's head coach in the summer of 2004. She is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College. Her assistants, all in their second seasons at UNO as well, are Jason Flores, Brad Schick and Maurtice Ivy.
The Opponent
Minnesota Duluth is 16-8 on the season and 3-6 in the North Central Conference. The Bulldogs have a one-game week for the second week in a row. Last week, UMD fell to No. 2 ranked North Dakota, 81-58. The Bulldogs have been without the services of the league's leading scorer, Lindsey Dietz, for the past five games. She was averaging 24.3 points per game and was second in the NCC in rebounding at 9.2. UMD has lost five straight games going into Saturday afternoon's contest.

The Mavericks will come back home for their final two regular season games Feb. 23 and 25 at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse. Game times are at 6 each night.
