Mavs Close Regular Season at Home

The Mavericks return home to close the regular season and to honor four seniors when they host Minnesota Duluth Thursday and Minnesota State, Mankato Saturday night at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse.
Both games tip-off at 8 p.m. UNO seniors Calvin Kapels, Ryan Curtis, Chris DeSpain and Quantel Murphy will be honored prior to Saturday's game. The four have accounted for almost 3,000 points among them.
Curtis and Kapels are just the second set of teammates to cross the 1,000-point mark in the same season, following Rick Wilks and Derrick Jackson in 1980. Thyey also are among a group of 10 to have 500 career rebounds and 1,000 career points, while Curtis is the fourth Mav to have 600 career rebounds and 1,000 career points.
The Records
The Mavs have lost six straight and enter this week's play at 13-15 overall and are 2-8 in the North Central Conference. Minnesota Duluth is 14-11 and 5-5. Minnesota State, which plays Thursday night at North Dakota, is 20-5 and 8-2.
The Series
UNO holds a 3-2 edge in the all-time series with the Bulldogs. UNO won both meetings last year, which was UMD's first season in the NCC. Minnesota State holds a 35-22 lead in the all-time series.
Last Week
The Mavericks, down to just seven healthy players, lost at Minnesota Duluth 69-51 Saturday afternoon in their only game of the week. Ryan Curtis led UNO with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Radio
The games will be broadcast on KOZN, 1620 AM, with David Gustafson calling the action.
Up Next
The Mavericks will play March 1 in the first round of the Wells Fargo Finals on the road. UNO's opponent and site will be determined after this weekend's play. The semifinal and championship games will be at the site of the regular season champion.
The Coach
Derrin Hansen is in his first season as a collegiate head coach. The seven-year Maverick assistant took over the program in June. He is a 1991 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University. He served as the head basketball and track coach at Elmwood-Murdock, Neb., High School for two years and was a graduate assistant at Nebraska-Kearney while earning his master's degree in 1995. Kenya Crandell is the associate head coach and Mitch Mosser the assistant coach.
