Softball Opener Moved Up to Friday

The 2006 Mavericks will get to take the field a day earlier than expected. UNO will compete in the Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Cougar Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Mavs will play Missouri Western at 9 a.m. Friday and then will play the host school at 1 p.m.
Saturday, UNO will play Ferris State at 9 a.m., followed by a game against Saint Joseph's at 1 p.m.
Coach Jeanne Tostenson Scarpello will be coaching her seventh Maverick team. Last year, UNO won the regular season and tournament titles in the North Central Conference before finishing fifth in the NCAA II regional tournament. The Mavericks return 12 letterwinners and seven starters from last year's 35-23-1 team.
