Mavs Go to St. Cloud for First Round Contest

The Mavericks head to St. Cloud State for a North Central Conference first-round game against the Huskies. Tip-off at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, Minn., will be at 8 p.m. The winner of the game will advance to the Wells Fargo Finals semifinal game Saturday afternoon in Mankato, Minn. The game will be broadcast on KOZN, 1620 AM, with David Gustafson calling the action.

The Mavs have won two straight games and are 15-15 entering Wednesday night's game. UNO finished the NCC regular season at 4-8, tied for sixth place. St. Cloud State is 18-9 and finished second at 8-4.

The Mavericks returned home to post wins over Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota State to close out the regular season. Zac Robinson scored 16 points and Denny Johnston pulled down 12 rebounds to lead UNO to a 66-58 win over UMD Thursday. On Saturday, the Mavs celebrated Senior Night with a 68-64 upset of league champion No. 14 Minnesota State, Mankato. Calvin Kapels scored 14 points in the win.

The Coach
Derrin Hansen is in his first season as a collegiate head coach. The seven-year Maverick assistant took over the program in June. He is a 1991 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University. He served as the head basketball and track coach at Elmwood-Murdock, Neb., High School for two years and was a graduate assistant at Nebraska-Kearney while earning his master's degree in 1995. Kenya Crandell is the associate head coach and Mitch Mosser the assistant coach.
