Mavs Face Busy Week on the Field

The Mavericks head into a busy week that finds them playing six games in five days. They host South Dakota in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, then will travel to St. Joseph, Mo., to play four games in the Missouri Western Regional Crossover Tournament on March 4-5.
Last Week
The Mavericks split four games in the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Ill. Lauren McArthur drove in 6 runs and 3 of her 5 hits were for extra bases in the tournament and Leslie Svoboda batted .571 and drove in three runs to lead the offense. UNO defeated Missouri Western, 5-4, and Ferris State, 5-3, and lost to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, 5-3, and Saint Joseph's 4-1.
The Squad
A total of 12 letterwinners and seven starters return for the Mavericks, led by all-NCC performers senior first baseman Lauren McArthur, junior outfielder Sara Sortino and junior pitcher Cheris Kuster.
The Coach
Maverick head coach Jeanne Tostenson Scarpello enters her seventh season at UNO with a record of 274-78-1. She has led the team to five NCC titles and six straight regional tournament appearances, including the national title in 2001. Her assistants are Michala Cimino, now in her ninth season, and Denise Peterson, now in her seventh year.

The Mavericks posted a 35-23-1 record in the 2005 season and swept the North Central Conference regular season and tournament titles. The Mavs finished fifth in the NCAA II regional meet.
