UNO to Host USD in First-Round Game Wednesday

UNO will host South Dakota Wednesday night at 6 at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse in a first-round game in the North Central Conference's Wells Fargo Finals. The winner will advance to a semifinal match-up with league champion North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D., on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The game will be broadcast, with Nick Handley calling the action, on KOZN, 1620 AM.
Records & Series
UNO is 19-10 overall this season and finished the NCC regular season at 5-7 and in fourth place. South Dakota is 15-12 and was 3-9 in the NCC. UNO has won both meetings with the Coyotes this year and leads the all-time series, 32-27.
Last Week
The Mavericks won a pair of home games to earn home court for Wednesday's first round. UNO defeated Minnesota Duluth Thursday, 82-70, as Karen Thies and Toni Kinsey each scored 17 points and Ashley Freerksen recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. UNO won its third straight game on Saturday night as senior forward JJ Smith matched a career-high with 29 points to lead a 94-81 win over Minnesota State, Mankato.
Coaching Staff
Head Coach Patty Patton Shearer is beginning her second season as the head coach at UNO and has a 33-24 mark. Overall in five seasons in college she is 93-73 She compiled a 60-49 record over four seasons at Fort Lewis College before becoming UNO's head coach in the summer of 2004. She is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College. Her assistants, all in their second seasons at UNO as well, are Jason Flores, Brad Schick and Maurtice Ivy.
The Opponent
South Dakota is 15-12 coming into the tournament and has lost four of its last six games, with three of them against top-ranked teams North Dakota and St. Cloud State. Bridgete Yoerger leads the team in scoring at 12.2 and rebounding at 5.6, however Ashley Robinette, averaging 11.8 on the year, has been scoring at a 19.8 clip in NCC play and has averaged 22.7 over the past three games.
