
Mavs Sweep Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, Mo.--The UNO baseball team improved to 7-2 with a doubleheader sweep of Missouri Western on Tuesday at Phil Welch Stadium. The Mavs won 4-1 in the opener and defeated the Griffons 10-4 in the nightcap.
Nick Russell (2-1) scattered three hits over five innings in the first game and allowed one run to pick up the win. Marc Badalucco picked up the save and did not allow a hit in the final two frames.
UNO led 2-1 before tacking on two more runs in the sixth inning. Evan Porter drew a bases loaded walk followed by a hit by pitch by James Adams.
In the second game, UNO trailed 4-1 after three innings before exploding for six runs in the fourth inning. Chad Leon's triple drove in three runs and Bryan Frew added an RBI single. UNO added two more runs on two Missouri Western errors.
Frew built onto the Maverick lead by driving in two more runs in the fifth inning with a double.
Nebraska-Omaha will host Missouri Western on Wednesday in a doubleheader at The Ballpark at BoysTown.
