Mavs Open Season With Split

DENVER, Colo.--The UNO baseball team opened up the 2006 season with a doubleheader split against Regis University Saturday, winning the opener 10-7 before dropping the nightcap, 7-1.
Nebraska-Omaha (1-1) belted three home runs in the 13-hit attack the first game. James Adams was 2-for-4 with four runs batted in, including a three-run homer. Lyle Lafountain had a two-run home run and Dane Larsen was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a home run.
Nick Russell (1-0) picked up the win for the Mavericks and Blake Denoyer earned the save.
In the second game, Regis University's Matt Huff scattered six hits over six innings, striking out six to tame the Mavs. Brian Frew picked up two hits in the loss to lead UNO offensively. Tim Huber (0-1) was credited with the loss.
The Mavericks will conclude the four-game series with Regis on Sunday in a doubleheader.
