Mavericks on Road for NCC Games

UNO takes to the road this week, facing North Central Conference games at St. Cloud State Thursday and Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday afternoon. The games will be broadcast, with David Gustafson calling the action, on KOZN, 1620 AM.
For the Record
UNO is 16-8 overall this season and is 2-5 in NCC games. The Mavericks have won four of their past six games. St. Cloud State, ranked No. 4 last week, is 20-2 and 6-2 and Minnesota State is 10-12 and 1-6.
Coaching Staff
Head Coach Patty Patton Shearer is beginning her second season as the head coach at UNO and has a 30-22 mark. Overall in five seasons in college she is 90-71 She compiled a 60-49 record over four seasons at Fort Lewis College before becoming UNO's head coach in the summer of 2004. She is a 1990 graduate of Rocky Mountain College. Her assistants, all in their second seasons at UNO as well, are Jason Flores, Brad Schick and Maurtice Ivy.
The Opponents
St. Cloud State brings a 20-2 mark into Thursday's game, with both losses to No. 2 ranked and undefeated North Dakota. The Huskies defeated UNO in the earlier meeting this year, 85-60, in Omaha. Erika Quigley is the team's leading scorer. She shared NCC player of the week honors last week, averaging 28.5 points and 13 rebounds in two games. Minnesota State is coming off a 77-65 home loss to St. Cloud State in its only outing last week. Arin Andrews, averaging 14.0 points and 8.4 rebounds, is the team leader for second-year head coach Lori Fish.

St. Cloud State holds a 27-18 lead in the series, while UNO leads Minnesota State by the same 27-18 count. This is the second meeting with the Huskies this year and the first of two with MSU.
Looking Ahead
Nebraska-Omaha has three straight road games, beginning with Thursday's game. UNO has one game, also on the road, next Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18, at Minnesota Duluth. The Mavs come back home for their final two regular season games Feb. 23 and 25.
