Mavericks Fall to No. 5 Huskies

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- No. 5 St. Cloud State took control early and raced to a 78-53 North Central Conference win over the Mavericks Thursday night at Halenbeck Hall.
The Huskies broke away with a 15-2 run in the opening minutes to take a 20-7 lead the first half. SCSU, now 21-2 overall and 7-2 in the NCC, eventually led by as many as 27 points before taking a 49-26 lead into halftime while shooting 56.3 percent from the floor.
Lacey Geitzenhauer, who led UNO with 11 points, capped an 8-0 run with a short jumper to help the Mavericks whittle the lead down to 56-35 with 13 minutes left. But the Huskies responded by holding UNO to just two field goals over the next nine minutes. SCSU's 22-4 run put the game out of reach.
Geitzenhauer led the Mavericks with 11 points and LaCheryl Prince added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. JJ Smith added nine points, increasing her career total to 1,221.
Erika Quigley and Sascha Hansen each scored 17 points for the Huskies, and Quigley pulled down 18 rebounds. SCSU finished the game shooting 49.2 percent from the field to UNO's 32.3 percent.
The Mavericks return to the floor Saturday afternoon at Minnesota State, Mankato at 2.
