Mavericks Shut Out Coyotes, 6-0, 8-0

OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of Nebraska at Omaha softball team improved to 4-2 on the year with a home doubleheader sweep over South Dakota, blanking the Coyotes, 6-0 and 8-0.
The Mavericks tied a season-high with 10 hits in the first game, led by senior Lauren McArthur's two doubles and two RBIs. Sophomore center fielder Alison Jergenson went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
Sophomore Cayte Billman improved to 2-1 on the season, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six Coyote batters.
In the second game, junior Taren Tuley recorded a perfect game while fanning six Coyote batters as the Mavericks registered their second-straight shut out.
The Maverick bats stayed hot in the second game, as UNO collected nine hits, including a home run and three doubles.
Billman's three-run homer sparked a five-run, four-hit third inning as Nebraska-Omaha broke open a tight game. Billman finished 2-for-2 at the plate, with four RBIs. Sophomore Leslie Svoboda went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI as seven Mavericks collected hits in the game.
The Mavericks will return to action this Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 4-5, when they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. for the Missouri Western Regional Crossover.
