UNO Splits with Griffons

Nebraska-Omaha pounded out 14 hits, cruising to a 14-6 victory over Missouri Western in its home opener at The Ballpark at BoysTown on Wednesday. The Griffons rebounded with a 15-2 win in the nightcap of the doubleheader.
UNO (8-3) exploded for six runs on six hits in the first inning. Missouri Western rallied in the fourth frame with five runs to make the score 6-5 before the Mavericks put the game away, scoring eight runs in their final three at-bats.
The Mavs' Chad Leon was 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs. Evan Porter had three hits and added three runs. Derrick Kendrick also drove in three runs.
In the second game, Missouri Western capitalized on three Maverick errors in the second inning and scored nine runs on five hits.
MWSU's Justin Parrish held UNO in check, allowing only two hits in six innings of work.
