Stingy Mavs Sweep a Pair

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Solid pitching performances by Cayte Billman and Taren Tuley and timely hitting by Shilo Jorgensen lifted the Mavericks to a pair of shutout wins Saturday to start a six-day, 12-game trip in the Rebel Spring Games.
Tuley tossed a complete game three-hitter and Jorgensen's perfectly executed suicide squeeze bunt in the top of the ninth inning scored Sara Sortino for the only run in a 1-0 win over Southern Indiana in the second game as UNO ran its record to 8-3.
Sortino started the inning on second base and took third on Svoboda's infield hit to the right side. McArthur's ground out to second moved Svoboda to second and Jorgensen followed with a perfect bunt. Tuley, now 4-0, retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning.
Jorgensen drove in a pair of runs and Cayte Billman tossed a three-hitter to lead the Mavericks to a 4-0 win over Ferris State in the first game Saturday. Billman struck out five to improve to 4-2 on the year and Cheris Kuster pitched the final inning to get her second save in the opener.
Jorgensen stroked a two-out bases-loaded single in the bottom of the first to give UNO a 2-0 lead over Ferris State. Lauren McArthur doubled home Leslie Svoboda in the third and the Mavs added an insurance run in the sixth.
Alison Jergenson went 3-for-4 and McArthur had two doubles in the game as the Mavs collected nine hits in the victory.
UNO will play two more games Sunday, meeting Indianapoilis at 12:30 p.m. and Massachusetts-Lowell at 2:20 p.m.
