Maverick Streak Grows to 7

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Leslie Svoboda slugged a three-run homer and Cheris Kuster pitched a four-hitter Monday to give the Mavericks a 7-2 win over New Haven in the Rebel Spring Games. The win was the second of the day and the seventh straight for UNO.
Svoboda and Lauren McArthur drove in fifth-inning runs to lead the Mavericks to a 3-1 win earlier Monday over West Virginia Wesleyan. UNO is now 12-3 before playing St. Xavier and Merrimack Tuesday.
The Mavs scored three times in the first in the second game with Svoboda and McArthur driving in runs with triples. They added a run in the fourth before Svoboda put the game out of reach in the sixth with her three-run shot. Kuster struck out seven and walked one to even her record at 1-1.
In the first game, starter and winner Cayte Billman shut down West Virginia Wesleyan after giving up a first-inning run to improve to 6-2. UNO, which has won five straight games in Florida, is now 11-3.
The Mavs tied the game in the fourth when Svoboda was hit by a pitch, advanced on a sacrifice by McArthur and scored on a throwing error. In the fifth, Sara Sortino singled and stole second, then scored on Svoboda's single. McArthur followed with a double to drive in the final run.
