Parse, Eickman Garner Honors at CCHA Awards Banque

This evening at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Mich., the No. 19 Nebraska-Omaha hockey team brought home two major awards when junior forward Scott Parse (Portage, Mich.) earned CCHA Player of the Year honors and junior defenseman Mike Eickman (Grand Forks, N.D.) was named the CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Parse is the first Maverick to win the CCHA's Player of the Year, who paced the league this year with 42 league-only points (17-25-42). Parse was twice named the CCHA's Offensive Player of the Week in 2005-06 and also was named to the All-CCHA First Team for the second year in a row. He paces UNO with 20-41-61, including 18 multiple-point games this season and became the all-time leading scorer in UNO history with 145 career points.
In addition to earning the league's most distinguished honor, Parse also learned at the banquet that he has been named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. Parse currently leads the nation in scoring with 61 points. He is the first Nebraska-Omaha player to earn recognition from the Hobey Baker Foundation.
Eickman, who was earlier selected as Nebraska-Omaha hockey's scholar-athlete, was selected from a group of 12 nominees by the conference's faculty representatives as the 2006 CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
He is a Psychology major at Nebraska-Omaha and been a Dean's List selection in each of his last five semesters.
Nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 through the fall term of the selection year to receive the school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. The CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year is selected by the 12 faculty representatives, voting is based on a system that awards five points for a first-place vote, three points for a second-place vote and one point for a third place vote.
