Mavericks Win 2, Lose Once in Tourney

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Mavericks split the first two games Sunday in the three-game Missouri Western Regional Crossover Tournament, then capped the day with a 7-5 win over Northwest Missouri State. UNO defeated Truman State, 9-5, before falling to Emporia State, 3-0, on a no-hitter earlier in the day.
Lauren McArthur slugged a three-run home run and Brianna Cautaudella tagged a two-run homer to lead the Mavericks to the win over Northwest Missouri State Sunday evening. Cayte Billman struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings to get the win. Cheris Kuster earned the save, getting the final out for UNO, which is now 6-3 on the season. Alison Jergenson, Brooke Wagner and Sara Sortino all collected two hits for the Mavericks.
Leslie Svoboda drove in four runs with a home run and a pair of doubles and Alison Jergenson and McArthur each drove in a pair of runs in UNO's first-game victory over Truman. Taren Tuley picked up the win for UNO.
In the second game, Melissa Stevens tossed a no-hitter for Emporia State, dropping the Mavericks. Billman took the loss.
The Mavericks will be back in action Wednesday, playing Missouri Western in a doubleheader in St. Joseph
