Mavs Take 2 From Southwest Minnesota State

OMAHA, Neb.--The Nebraska-Omaha baseball team extended its winning streak to four games with 4-3 and 14-0 victories over Southwest Minnesota State on Monday at the Ballpark at Boys Town.
Maverick freshman Tyler Cloyd drove in three runs in the opener and then picked up the win in the second game by throwing five scoreless innings, striking out nine to improve to 3-0 on the season.
SMSU built a 2-0 lead after 4 1/2 innings as freshman Derek Bjoraker carried a no-hitter to the fifth inning. UNO (12-3) then struck for three runs in the fifth. Derrick Kendrick started the rally with a one-out double. Chad Leon followed with a bunt single and Brian Frew and Lyle Lafountain both drew walks. Tyler Cloyd's two-run single gave the Mavs a 3-2 lead.
SMSU tied the game in the top of the seventh on an unearned run before the Mavs won the game in their final at-bat. Chad Leon reached on an error and later scored on a single up the middle by Cloyd.
Nick Russell started the first game and allowed just one earned run over six innings, striking out eight.
In the second game, UNO pounded out 16 hits and struck for four runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings. Min Sung was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Evan Porter, Brian Goliber and Derrick Kendrick each chipped in two hits apiece.
