Thies, Smith Named to All-NCC Team

Senior JJ Smith and junior Karen Thies each earned repeat selections to the 12-player all-North Central Conference team announced Tuesday. In addition, junior forward Ashley Freerksen was named the league's Newcomer of the Year.
Smith, from Lincoln, led the Mavericks in scoring at 13.9 per game and finished her four-year UNO career as the No. 9 all-time leading scorer with 1,300 points.
Thies, from Durango, Colo., averaged 11.9 points per game and led the team in rebounding, averaging 6.1 per game. She also led the team with 75 steals and was second with 103 assists.
Freerksen, a native of Des Moines, Iowa, who transferred to UNO last fall from Des Moines Area Community College, averaged 10.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
