UNO Takes Twinbill From Bearcats

OMAHA, Neb.--The Nebraska-Omaha baseball team extended its winning streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep over Northwest Missouri State on Saturday, winning 8-7 and 7-4 at the Ballpark at Boys Town.
UNO (23-7) capitalized on seven Bearcat errors in the first game. Freshman Evan Porter was 3-for-4 and scored four times for the Mavericks. Freshman Derrick Kendrick added two hits drove two runs. Sophomore Blake Denoyer (2-0) picked up the win for Nebraska-Omaha while junior Brian Hauck earned his second save of the season.
The Mavericks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game after Porter singled to right field with the bases loaded and all three runs came across after the ball was mishandled by right fielder Billy Burns. UNO added a pair of runs in the second and fourth innings for a 7-0 lead.
UNO starter Josh Lundin improved to 5-0 on the season and did not allow a hit until Pat Whitt's one out homer in the fifth inning. NMWSU (7-14) rallied for three more runs in the sixth inning and threatened to tie the game with the tying run at the plate but reliever Shawn Smith came on for the final four outs of the game to pick up his fourth save of the year.
The Mavericks will start NCC play next weekend when they travel to St. Cloud State for a four-game series with the Huskies.
