UNO, NW Missouri State Split

The Mavericks rode the one-hit pitching of Cheris Kuster to a 3-0 victory over Northwest Missouri State in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday, but the Bearcats solved UNO hurlers in the nightcap for a 12-3 win at Claussen-Westgate Field.
No. 11 UNO is now 30-7, while the No. 18 Bearcats are 28-8. The Mavericks will play another non-conference twin-bill Wednesday at Wayne State at 3 p.m.
Kuster held Northwest Missouri State hitless until the seventh when Lindsay Stephenson led off with a double to left. Stephenson also broke up a perfect game by Kuster on April 1 with a seventh-inning home run to give the Bearcats a 1-0 win.
Leslie Svoboda, who was 3-for-3 in the first game and 6-for-7 for the day, Kellyn Kramolisch and Sara Sortino each singled in runs in the first game for UNO.
Katie Novotny and Brianna Cataudella opened the second inning with singles. Brooke Wagner sacrificed the runners over and Kramolish singled in Novotny, but Cataudella was thrown out at third. Sortino followed with a single to left to score Kramolisch.
In the third, Svoboda opened with a single, went to second on a ground out and scored on an error.
Kuster struck out 14 and walked none to improve to 9-2.
The Bearcats jumped out front in the second game with four runs in the top of the second as Katy John doubled home two runs and Jaclyn Brown and Stephenson each had RBI singles.
The Mavs closed the gap with an unearned run in the fourth as Svoboda led with a double, advanced on an out and scored on an error. Svoboda
again started a rally in the sixth with a lead-off single, went to second on a single by Lauran McArthur and to third on an error. She scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Shilo Jorgensen. UNO loaded the bases with two out before pinch-hitter Beth Harris lined to right to end the threat.
The Bearcats put the game away with an eight-run seventh, bunching five hits around two UNO errors and a walk.
Stephenson led the Bearcats' 13-hit attack with three hits and two RBIs.
UNO added another run in the seventh as Sortino opened with an infield single and later scored on a ground out by Lauren McArthur.
