Mavs Tie School Record with 18 Straight Wins

The Nebraska-Omaha baseball team tied the school record winning streak of 18 games by sweeping Minnesota Duluth with scores of 9-3 and 9-4 at the Ballpark at Boys Town Saturday afternoon.
UNO (33-7, 8-0/1st NCC) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the first game after Bryan Frew doubled home Ryan Lafountain. The Mavs then plated five runs in the fifth inning to go ahead 6-0. Chad Leon drew a leadoff walk. Lafountain followed with a single and Frew loaded the bases with another walk. Min Sung, Evan Porter, Matt Meyer and Brian Goliber all followed with RBI singles.
Maverick starter Nick Russell held the Bulldogs scoreless until David Olson's two-run homer in the sixth inning. UNO responded with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth, highlighted by Meyer's two-run double to make the score 9-2.
Russell struck out seven over six innings to improve to 4-1 on the year. Porter collected three hits and drove in two runs. Meyer and Goliber each had two hits and two RBIs a piece.
In the second game, UNO jumped out to a 3-0 lead after Frew's two-run double and Derrick Kendrick's RBI single. Porter made the score 4-0 with a solo blast in the fifth.
UNO's Tim Huber carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before giving up a leadoff single to Shawn Lindsay. UMD (7-23, 1-7/7th NCC) scratched across a run in the sixth before UNO exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 9-1 lead. Lafountain belted a grand slam homer and Frew followed two batters later with a solo shot.
Huber allowed two hits over six innings and struck out six to improve to 3-2 on the year.
UNO (33-7, 8-0 1st NCC) will bid for its 19th win in a row and try to move one notch up from the record that was set back in 1964 when they play at Wayne State on Monday.
