UNO Takes Twinbill from Winona State

Nebraska-Omaha rallied from seven runs down in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Winona State 11-10 in the first game of a twinbill on Wednesday at the Ballpark at Boys Town. The Mavs went on to win the nightcap, 17-10.
UNO (35-8) committed a season-high six errors in the opener and found themselves down 7-0 after two innings. WSU (23-12) took a 10-3 lead in the sixth inning after home runs by Reggie Stevens and Ben Barrone.
The Mavs then sent 12 batters to the plate for the seventh inning rally. Chad Leon was hit by a pitch. Lyle Lafountain singled to right field before Bryan Frew and Min Sung drew back-to-back walks. Evan Porter followed with an RBI single and Matt Meyer reached on an error by the shortstop, scoring Frew to make the score 10-6. David Bodnar struck out swinging and Marc Centofante followed with an RBI groundout to first base for the second out of the inning. Derrick Kendrick's two-run triple made the score 10-9. Leon was then intentionally walked to set the stage for Lafountain, who knocked in the tying run with an infield single to the shortstop. Frew then drove in the game-winning run when he beat out an infield single to second base, scoring Leon.
Chris Barone (1-0) picked up his first collegiate win for UNO, throwing 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
In the second game, UNO pounded out 15 hits and scored in every inning they came to the plate. Lafountain was 3-for-5 with two homers and five RBIs while Frew chipped in four hits and drove in three. Shawn Smith (4-1) earned the win in relief for UNO. He pitched three scoreless innings and did not allow a hit.
UNO will face Augustana in a doubleheader at the Ballpark at Boys Town on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
