Jorgensen's 2 HRs Help Mavs Win Title

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Shilo Jorgensen belted a pair of home runs Saturday, backing the shutout pitching of Cheris Kuster and Taren Tuley, as the Mavericks swept St. Cloud State to win the North Central Conference regular season title. No. 11-ranked UNO won 8-0 in five innings and 4-0 to improve to 41-9 overall and 11-1 in the NCC.
Jorgensen smacked a two-run home run in the first inning to jump-start the Mavericks in the 8-0 win over the Huskies in the opener. The Mavs added three runs in the second to support the two-hit pitching of Kuster (15-3). Brianna Cataudella added a solo homer in the top of the fifth for the eight-run margin.
Kuster, who struck out two, lost her no-hit bid in the fourth inning on a single by Jessica Preiner.
In the second game, the Mavericks claimed a 1-0 lead in the fifth as Katie Novotny doubled and scored on a one-out single to left by Cataudella. Jorgensen, a senior from Lafayette, Colo., stroked a three-run homer, her fifth of the year, in the top of the sixth.
Tuley fanned four and walked none to improve to 16-4.
UNO's next action will come Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader at Nebraska-Kearney at 2 p.m.
