Mavs Take 2 From Augustana

Freshman Tyler Cloyd's three-hit shutout led Nebraska-Omaha to a 2-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader against Augustana on Saturday afternoon at the Ballpark at Boys Town. UNO rallied to win the nightcap 5-3 to sweep the NCC twinbill.
Cloyd (6-0) carried a no-hitter into the sixth and recorded the first two outs of the inning before allowing a single to designated hitter Gary Walz. Cloyd tied a season-high with nine strikeouts and walked three.
UNO (37-8, 10-0 NCC) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an unearned run after Chad Leon scored on a popup by Evan Porter that was dropped by second baseman Brandon Hunt.
The Mavs picked up the second run of the game after Derrick Kendrick doubled and later scored on Lyle Lafountain's RBI double.
Augustana (22-13, 5-5 NCC) built a 2-1 lead after three innings of the second game and scratched another run across the plate in the fourth for a 3-1 lead. UNO made the score 3-2 in the fourth frame when David Bodnar tripled and scored on Marc Centofante's RBI single.
Nebraska-Omaha then rallied for three runs in the fifth inning and took the lead for good. Leon led off with a walk and advanced on a wild pitch. Lafountain, Min Sung, Bryan Frew and Kendrick all followed with RBI singles.
UNO starter Josh Lundin picked up his eighth victory of the season, scattering six hits and three runs over five innings. Blake Denoyer came on for the final two innings to pick up his team-leading sixth save of the year.
The Mavericks will face Augustana in another twinbill on Sunday in Sioux Falls, S.D., with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
