
Streak Grows to 10 with Sweep of SCSU

ST. CLOUD, Minn--Freshman Tyler Cloyd fired a three-hit shutout to lead the Mavericks to a 5-0 victory over St. Cloud State in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. UNO also won the nightcap 12-8 to extend the club's winning streak to 10 games.
The Mavericks jumped out with a 2-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back. UNO's Lyle Lafountain led the game off with a single, and teammate Bryan Frew connected for a single to knock in Lafountain and give the Mavs the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. UNO would go on to score four more unanswered runs and Frew led the offensive attack with two hits and two RBIs.
UNO (25-7, 2-0 NCC) dug themselves out of a 4-0 hole with five runs in the top of the second inning. Maverick starting pitcher Josh Lundin allowed four first inning runs but picked up his sixth win of the season after allowing just one Husky run over the next four innings.
The Mavs will meet St. Cloud State again on Sunday in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
