Mavs Win 2, Herold Gets No. 200

ST. CLOUD, Minn.--Senior Nick Russell threw a four-hit shutout to lead Nebraska-Omaha to a 5-0 victory over St. Cloud State on Sunday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader. The Mavericks went on to win the second game 9-3 to extend their winning streak to 12 games. Bob Herold picked up his 200th career win as UNO's head coach. Herold is now 200-140 in his seventh season at Nebraska-Omaha.
In the first game, freshman Evan Porter and sophomore Matt Meyer each drove in a pair of runs in the first inning to give the Mavericks a 4-0 lead. Porter drove in his third run of the game in the fifth inning with an RBI single. Senior Chad Leon also added three hits in the contest. Russell struck out eight SCSU batters and walked three to improve to 3-1 on the year.
The Mavs (27-7, 4-0 NCC) trailed 1-0 after two innings of the second game but exploded for eight runs in the third frame. Junior Min Sung's three-run triple gave UNO a 3-1 lead. UNO then went on to score four unearned runs in the inning with two outs. Sung also added a solo shot in the sixth inning for his second home run of the season.
Sophomore Tim Huber (2-2) earned the victory on the mound for UNO in the nightcap. He scattered three hits and allowed two runs over five innings while striking out two.
UNO is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Southwest Minnesota State on Monday.
