Svoboda Named 1st Team All-American

Third baseman Leslie Svoboda has been named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-America first team, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Three All-America teams were selected by NCAA Division II head coaches representing each of the country's eight regions.
Svoboda, a sophomore from Lincoln, Neb., led the Mavericks and the North Central Conference in batting average (.479), home runs (21), doubles (20), RBIs (65), runs scored (71), and slugging percentage (.964). Her 21 home runs set a Maverick single-season record and her .479 batting average ranks second in school history.
Svoboda, who also earned first team all-North Central Conference and and NFCA all-Region accolades, became the first Maverick to earn All-America honors since Amanda Lehotak was named to the third team in 2002. The last time the Maverick softball program produced a first team All-American was in 2001 when UNO won the national championship, garnering three first team selections in Michelle Manthei, Jennifer Carson, and Tiffany Jones.
The Mavericks finished the 2006 season with a 47-13 overall record and an 11-1 North Central Conference mark. Nebraska-Omaha won the NCC regular season title, finished second at the 2006 NCC Tournament, and fourth at the NCAA II North Central Regional. The Mavericks advanced to the NCAA II Tournament for the 17th consecutive season.
