Leon, Cloyd Named to All-Region Team

Nebraska-Omaha baseball players Chad Leon and Tyler Cloyd have been selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings 2006 All-Central Region baseball team as voted on by the region's coaches. Leon was named to the First Team while Cloyd collected Second Team honors.
Leon, a senior from Tampa, Fla., topped the Mavericks in many offensive categories, batting .374 from the leadoff position. The NCC Player of the year was first on the team in runs (62), hits (76), home runs (13), total bases (129), slugging percentage (.635), walks (40) and stolen bases (28). He also recorded 103 putouts and committed just two errors defensively.
Cloyd, a freshman from Omaha, Neb., had a 7-1 record with a 3.12 ERA this season for the Mavericks. The 2006 NCC Pitcher of the Year struck out a team-high 77 batters while throwing 75 innings this season. He allowed just 26 earned runs (37 total) as opponents hit just .246. Cloyd appeared in 14 games with 12 starts and tossed two complete games, including two shutouts.
