Mutual of Omaha Extends Stampede Sponsorship
Jul 26, 2006 | Hockey
Mutual of Omaha will continue as the title sponsor of the annual hockey tournament hosted by UNO for 2006 and 2007, in an agreement announced today by athletic director David Herbster and Mutual of Omaha. The company has been the title sponsor since 2004.
"Mutual of Omaha is excited about renewing our sponsorship of the Mutual of Omaha Stampede and continuing our support of UNO hockey for another two years," John Hildenbiddle, Senior Vice President Brand Management and Public Relations, said. "It's been terrific for our company to be the title sponsor, especially since the Mavericks won the tournament in both 2004 and 2005. We know the team will have a great season again this year, and it's been a lot of fun to be part of the Mavericks' success."
This year's Mutual of Omaha Stampede will be October 20-21 at Qwest Center Omaha and will feature Niagara, Massachusetts-Lowell and Northern Michigan. The Mavericks will meet Niagara in the first round at 7 p.m., following the 4 p.m. game between Mass-Lowell and Northern Michigan. The third-place game will be Saturday at 4 p.m., followed by the 7 p.m. championship game.
The Mavericks defeated Army and No. 8 ranked New Hampshire in last year's event for their second straight title. UNO posted a 20-15-6 record last year and made its first-ever NCAA tournament appearance.
The Stampede has been a regular fixture for the Mavericks. This will be the sixth annual tournament.
"This is great news for us that Mutual of Omaha will continue to be an active partner in Maverick hockey as the title sponsor," Herbster said.
