Mavs Sweep Alumni in Exhibition

OMAHA, Neb. -- In their final tuneup before opening the regular season next week, the 2006 University of Nebraska at Omaha Mavericks defeated the UNO Alumni 30-25, 30-19, 30-23 before 327 fans Saturday night at the Sapp Fielhdouse.
Senior outside hitter Christina Reicks led the Mavericks recording a double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs. Freshman middle blocker Ellen Thommes added nine kills while hitting .412 and adding four blocks. Defensively, the Mavericks were led by senior libero Stacie Wemhoff who notched 18 digs and two service aces.
As a team the Mavericks hit .215 while holding the Alumni to a -.008 hitting clip. UNO outblocked the Alumni 14 to seven, while holding a 59 to 43 advantage in digs.
The Mavericks open the regular season next Thursday, Aug. 24, when they travel to Warrensburg, Mo. to face the 10th-ranked Central Missouri State Jennies. UNO will compete in the CMSU Jennies Invite on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25-26.
