
No.17 Mavs Defeat No. 22 UNK in Four Games

OMAHA, Neb. -- Nicole McLeod, Carlie Christensen, and Christina Reicks each recorded 11 kills as the 17th-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team defeated No. 22 Nebraska-Kearney 3-1 (30-19, 30-14, 25-30, 30-26) in the Mavericks' home opener before 1,527 fans Thursday night at Sapp Fieldhouse.
It marked the first victory over the Lopers since the 2000 season.
After blitzing UNK in the first two games, the Mavericks opened the third game with a 7-1 scoring run, only to see UNK respond by scoring a 30-25 win. The Lopers took a 26-16 lead before UNO rallied, scoring five straight to pull within 27-23.
The final game was tight most of the way until kills by Nicole McLeod, Katie Agnew and Ellen Thommes sparked a 5-0 run by the Mavericks for a 20-13 lead. The Mavericks finished off the win by taking advantage of four attack errors by the Lopers for the final four points.
UNO improved to 11-4 with the victory, while UNK fell to 12-4.
The Mavericks are idle until going on the road for North Central Conference matches at North Dakota Sept. 29 and at St. Cloud State Sept. 30.
