Late Parse Goal Rescues Mavs, 2-1

Scott Parse, UNO's all-time scoring leader, rescued the Mavericks in the final minute with his 14th goal of the season, giving UNO a 2-1 Central Collegiate Hockey Association win over Bowling Green Friday night in front of 5,201 at Qwest Center Omaha.
The Mavs, now 9-9-6 overall and 6-7-2 in the CCHA, and Bowling Green, 5-18-1, 3-13-0, conclude their two-game series Saturday night at 7:05. The win was the fifth straight by UNO over the Falcons and the third of this season in the four-game series between the schools.
The Mavericks, who killed off three third-period power plays by the Falcons, narrowly escaped playing their fifth straight overtime as Parse, stationed just outside the crease, swept a centering pass from Bryan Marshall past BGSU goaltender Jimmy Spratt with 54.4 seconds left. Dan Charleston, who dug the puck free along the right wing boards, also drew an assist on the goal.
Spratt, who earned the game's No. 3 star, and UNO freshman goalie Jeremie Dupont, the No. 2 star, made several key saves in the first period to keep the game scoreless.
UNO's Adam Bartholomay gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead with a shot into the upper left corner from the high slot on a pass from Brandon Scero to finish off an odd-man rush. Mick Lawrence also drew an assist on the goal that came minutes after the Mavericks killed off a 4-on-3 power play for 1:25.
The Falcons tied the game less than four minutes later on Jonathan Matsumoto's power play goal four seconds after UNO's Mark Bernier was sent to the penalty box for interference.
In the third, the Mavs blanked the Falcons on three power plays, including a 5-on-3 situation for 58 seconds.
