Lake Superior State Battles Back to Tie UNO 4-4

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.-- Lake Superior State overcame a three-goal deficit with four third period goals, including three in a span of just 2:37 to tie the Mavericks Friday night in Central Collegiate Hockey Association play.
The Mavs are now 8-8-6 overall and 5-6-2 in the CCHA. UNO and LSSU (12-6-3, 6-4-3 CCHA) will meet again Saturday at 6:05 p.m. CST.
After the Lakers tied the game with the three-goal flurry, Mick Lawrence gave the Mavericks the lead once more with a goal at 12:38 on an assist from junior forward Brandon Scero and Eddie Del Grosso.
But, LSSU's Nathan Perkovich forced overtime with a goal with just 1:52 to play.
Maverick soophomore Adam Bartholomay scored the only goal of the first period on assists from sophomore forwards Dan Charleston and Tomas Klempa at 7:23.
In the second stanza UNO built a 3-0 lead with goals from freshman defenseman Del Grosso and Tomas Klempa. Del Grosso scored at 9:20 with two seconds left in the Mavs' man advantage with the assists going to junior forwards Bryan Marshall and Lawrence. Klempa's shorthanded goal came off of assists from Del Grosso and senior forward Alex Nikiforuk with 33 seconds left in the period.
In the third the Lakers scored three unanswered goals to tie the game. LSSU's first goal came from Simon Gysbers at 5:11. Laker John Scrymgeour scored the second marker at 7:09 followed by Derek R. Smith's shorthanded goal 39 seconds later.
