Christensen Leads UNO to Sweep Over Coyotes

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Carlie Christensen blasted a career-high 24 kills to lead the University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team to its third-straight sweep, a 3-0 (32-30, 30-19, 30-27) North Central Conference victory over South Dakota Friday night in the Dakota Dome.
Christensen hit a gaudy .622 with just one attack error in 37 attempts, while adding a match-high five blocks.
With the win, the Mavericks improved to 12-8 overall and 4-4 in the NCC. South Dakota dropped to 18-6 and 3-4.
Ellen Thommes added 10 kills and five digs and Kelli Goeser contributed with nine kills and four blocks.
Katie Agnew directed the UNO offense to a .303 attack percentage while recording her 13th double-double with 45 assists and a team-high 16 digs. She also added a match-high three service aces.
Paced by two Christensen kills, a kill by Goeser and a kill and service ace by Liz Ingram, the Mavericks erased a 16-8 deficit in game one, going on a 10-2 scoring run to tie the first game up at 18.
South Dakota held a 28-26 advantage until a kill by Thommes and a block by Thommes and Agnew knotted the game at 28. The Coyotes held game point at 29-28, but Christensen responded with a kill to tie the game at 29. South Dakota recorded a kill off Ashley Gross to give the Coyotes their second game point. Once again, Christensen quieted USD with her ninth kill of game one, making it 30-all. A kill by Goeser and an ace by Agnew gave Nebraska-Omaha the crucial first game, 32-30.
The Mavericks carried the momentum into the second game, racing out to an 11-2 lead. The Coyotes could get no closer than eight points as UNO ran away with game two, 30-19. Christensen had eight kills with no errors in nine swings in the second frame.
The third game saw 12 ties before the Mavericks pulled away late for a 26-20 lead. UNO led 29-22 after a Christensen kill, before South Dakota saved five match points, including three-straight kills by Laura Slagter. Fittingly, a Christensen kill off Agnew ended the match as the Mavericks won game three, 30-27.
The Mavericks return home on Friday, Oct. 26, for a 7 p.m. NCC contest against 11th-ranked Augustana.
