Mavs Open CCHA Play at No. 2 Miami

The Mavericks open Central Collegiate Hockey Association play this weekend with a two-game series at No. 2 ranked Miami. Game times are at 6:35 p.m. CDT Friday and 6:05 p.m. on Saturday at Steve Cady Arena in Oxford, Ohio. All Maverick hockey games can be heard on KKAR, 1290 AM.
UNO (1-0-0) captured its third Mutual of Omaha Maverick Stampede last week with a 5-1 win over Alabama-Huntsville. Mick Lawrence scored twice and Bryan Marshall tied his own school record with four assists. Lawrence was named the tournament's MVP.
Meanwhile, Miami improved to 4-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the CCHA with a pair of 5-1 wins over Ohio State. The RedHawks are favored to win the CCHA's regular season title in the annual coaches' poll, while the media picks Miami for a second-place finish. Miami is currently ranked No. 2 in the USCHO.com/CSTV Top 20 poll behind North Dakota.
Miami leads the all-time series with the Mavericks, 11-6-2, with a 7-1-2 edge in Oxford. UNO lost both games at Miami last year.
Maverick Notes...
Attendance was up for a third-straight year in the Maverick Stampede, with 5,889 Friday and 5,541 Saturday...Coach Mike Kemp announced Thursday that junior Adam Bartholomay has decided to leave the program and may transfer to another school...junior forward Tomas Klempa, who sat out last week's games, will be in the lineup this week...also, freshman forward Blake Martin has been cleared to play physically. Junior Juha Uotila has not been cleared academically and will not make the trip. UNO will return home next weekend to host CCHA rival Michigan, currently ranked No. 3, at Qwest Center Omaha on Nov. 2-3. The Friday night game will be televisted state-wide by NET1.
