Mavericks Host Dana in Season Opener Thursday

The University of Nebraska-Omaha women's basketball team opens the 2007-08 season Thursday night, facing Dana for the first time ever, at 6 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Mavericks are looking to win their third-straight season opener, a feat the program has not pulled off since a run of six-straight season-opening wins from 1989-94.
UNO warmed up with exhibition contests against two Division I opponents earlier this month, taking on Iowa and Nebraska. The Hawkeyes defeated the Mavs, 73-51, and the Huskers were also victorious, 78-50, but the young Mavericks squad gained valuable experience by starting the season against such stiff competition.
Junior Cayla Hargrove led the Mavs in scoring in each contest, scoring 11 against Iowa and 18 against Nebraska, including 14 points in the second half. She also tied with sophomore Alyssa Green for the team lead in rebounds against the Huskers with eight.
Newcomer Amanda Brodsack was also strong on the boards for the Mavs, pulling down eight rebounds against the Hawkeyes and seven in Lincoln.
UNO continues play in Kansas City on Saturday when they play at Rockhurst at 5 p.m.
