Shires Signs 4 in Early Recruiting Class

University of Nebraska at Omaha Volleyball Coach Rose Shires announced Wednesday the signing of four high school seniors from the state of Nebraska to National Letters-of-Intent to play volleyball for the Maverick volleyball program.
The newest Mavericks include 6-2 middle blocker Chelsea Snyder (Omaha, Neb./Skutt Catholic HS), 5-7 defensive specialist Angie Reicks (Bellevue, Neb./West HS), 6-1 middle blocker Lizzy Mach (Wahoo, Neb./Bishop Neumann HS), and 5-7 defensive specialist Michaela Ziola (Aurora, Neb./Aurora HS).
Shires said this group not only features tremendous athletes, but all four bring impressive winning attitudes into the Maverick program.
"These four will definitely help to fill the holes left by the departure of our senior class," said Shires. "All four are capable of competing for playing time right away."
Chelsea Snyder
Snyder earned Class B second team all-state honors by the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal-Star in her senior year. She also helped lead Omaha Skutt Catholic to a semifinal appearance at last week's Nebraska State Tournament in Class B where she was named to the all-tournament team by the Lincoln Journal-Star. Last season, Snyder earned all-conference and honorable mention all-state honors as well as being named to the academic all-state team.
Angie Reicks
Reicks was a member of three Nebraska Class A state championship teams at Bellevue West High School from 2004-06. Reicks was an honorable mention for the Class A all-state team as a senior. She plays for the Nebraska Elite club team. Reicks is the sister of former two-time all-NCC performer Christina Reicks who played for the Mavericks from 2004-06.
Lizzy Mach
Mach led Bishop Neumann to two-straight Class C-1 Nebraska State Tournament appearances in 2006 and 2007, while earning all-state, all-conference, and all-area honors. She also led Bishop Neumann to a second place Class B finish at the 2007 Nebraska State Track & Field Championships where she captured the state title in the triple jump and placed fourth in both the long jump and 100-meter high hurdles.
Michaela Ziola
Ziola helped lead Aurora to four-straight Nebraska State Tournament appearances from 2004-07 while earning honorable mention all-state and all-conference honors. She set the school record for digs in a season with 368 in 2006. Ziola also competed in basketball and track and was a two-time academic all-state selection.
The Mavericks will be making their fourth-straight appearance in the NCAA II Tournament this week in Duluth, Minn. UNO (16-8) will battle Augustana (19-10) at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 in the first round of the NCAA II North Central Regional.
