Mavericks Fall At Home

OMAHA, Neb. - Ferris State's freshman goalkeeper, Pat Nagle, stopped 31 Nebraska-Omaha shots to lead the Bulldogs past the Mavericks, 5-1, in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action Friday night at the Qwest Center Omaha.
The loss sends the Mavericks to 3-5-0 on the season and 2-5-0 in CCHA play, while the Bulldogs improved to 4-4-0 and 3-4-0 with the win. The teams get a day off before concluding their two-game series Sunday afternoon at the Qwest Center Omaha with face off scheduled for 2:05.
The Mavericks fell behind early when FSU's Brendan Connolly beat UNO goalie Jerad Kaufmann at 5:18 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs were able to add to their lead two just minutes later as Scott Wietecha capitalized on a power-play opportunity extending their lead to 2-0.
UNO senior Mick Lawrence cut the FSU lead in half with a goal 8:58 into the first, freshman Rich Purslow assisted on the goal to help bring the Mavericks within one of the Bulldogs, 2-1.
The Bulldogs added another marker before the first intermission, making the score 3-1 at the break and were able to take control of the game in the second and third frames. FSU posted a goal in each of the final two periods to seal the victory, 5-1.
Jeremie Dupont was solid in net for UNO, stopping 21 of the 23 shots he faced after relieving starter Jerad Kaufmann at 10:41 of first period.
