Mavs Crash Boards, Defeat Rockhurst, 72-64

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Thanks to a dominant rebounding effort, the University of Nebraska-Omaha women's basketball team won its second in a row, defeating Rockhurst, 72-64, Saturday night at Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse.
The Mavericks (2-0) grabbed 55 rebounds, 30 on the offensive side, while the Hawks (0-1) pulled down a total of 25. LaToya Wright tied for the team lead with 11 boards, eight on the offensive side.
Two players recorded double-doubles for UNO. Amanda Brodsack scored 17 points, tying Wright with 11 rebounds. Alyssa Green led the team with 21 points, tying her career high, with 10 boards, also a personal best.
The advantage in rebounds made up for a poor shooting night, as UNO hit only 36.5 percent from the field, including 32.4 percent in the second half. Rockhurst, meanwhile, shot 42.6 percent for the game. But with the Mavs crashing the boards, they converted the 30 offensive rebounds into 25 second-chance points.
Amy Hake led the Hawks with 24 points, going 4-for-9 on 3-point tries and 10-for-10 from the free throw line, adding six rebounds and five steals.
UNO returns to action Tuesday night against Grand View, kicking off a 10-game homestand, which including the annual Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 23-24, and the Doubletree Downtown Classic Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
