OMAHA, Neb. - Nebraska-Omaha senior goalie Eric Aarnio turned away 18 shots to record his first career shutout, a 2-0 victory over Ferris State in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action Sunday afternoon at the Qwest Center Omaha.
With the win UNO moves to 4-5-0 on the season and 3-5-0 in CCHA play, while FSU falls to 5-6-1 and 4-4-0.
UNO freshman defenseman Alain Goulet broke open a scoreless game at 3:35 of the second period with a power-play goal, putting a slapshot from the blueline past FSU goalkeeper Mitch O'Keefe to give the Mavs a 1-0 lead. Mick Lawrence and Ed Del Grosso assisted on the score.
Maverick captain Bryan Marshall put the game away 15:56 into the third when he took a centering pass from Dan Charleston and beat O'Keefe from right in front of the Bulldog's net, pushing the UNO lead to 2-0.
The Mavericks will be back in action next weekend, when CCHA foe Alaska comes to town for a two-game series Nov. 23-24 at the Qwest Center Omaha.
