Mavericks Fall to Hawkeyes in Exhibition Contest

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Nebraska-Omaha women's basketball team opened the 2007-08 season with an exhibition game against the University of Iowa Friday night, won by the Hawkeyes, 73-51, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Junior wing Cayla Hargrove was the Mavericks' top scorer with 11 points on 3-of-8 shooting, including a 3-pointer, and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Alyssa Green, the team's only returning starter, scored nine.
Newcomer Amanda Brodsack, a junior college transfer, scored eight with a team-high eight rebounds, with junior Ellen Majewski adding seven points. In all, eight different players scored for UNO, and the team shot a solid 82 percent on free throw tries (18-for-22).
All 13 Hawkeyes who entered the game scored, led by forward Wendy Ausdemore with 10. Every Iowa player also had at least two rebounds, led by Jenee Graham with five.
UNO will play another exhibition game Monday at 7:05 p.m. against Nebraska at the Devaney Center in Lincoln. The regular season kicks off Nov. 15 with a home contest against Dana.
