Mavericks Host CCHA Rival Alaska

Nebraska-Omaha will host Alaska in a two-game Central Collegiate Hockey Association match up at the Qwest Center Omaha. The games will take place Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov.24 both games starting at 7:05 p.m. CST. This will be the first time these two teams meet since former Maverick assistant coach Doc DelCastillo took over as head coach for the Nanooks.
Media Coverage
The games will be broadcast on KKAR, 1290 AM, with the pregame show beginning 20 minutes before face-off. Greg Harrington will call the action, with Terry Leahy providing color commentary. Saturday night's game will be televised on NETV2. The Records UNO is 4-5-0 overall and 3-5-0 in the conference this season. Alaska is 0-6-0 on the season and 0-4-0 in the CCHA.
The Coaches
Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp is in his 11th season as the Maverick head coach. Kemp is a 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Duluth, Minn., native is 166-192-47 at UNO overall and has a 93-106-33 mark in the CCHA. Former UNO assistant coach Doc DelCastillo returns to Omaha for the first time as Alaska's head coach. His current record at Alaska is 0-6-0 and 0-4-0 in the CCHA.
The Series
The Nanooks have an 18-9-7 advantage in the series, including an 8-6-2 mark in Omaha. But the Mavs have a winning mark, 3-1-2 in the past six encounters, including a sweep at Fairbanks back on Feb. 23-24 of this year. Senior captain Bryan Marshall has a 5-6-11 career scoring chart against Alaska.
Last Meeting
Nebraska-Omaha traveled north to play on the Nanooks' home ice in Fairbanks. On Feb. 23, 2007 the Mavs rallied back from a 3-1 deficit to win 4-3 after Bill Bagron scored the game-winning goal in his home state of Alaska. The following night it was Alaska that attempted a rally after UNO scored four unanswered goals. UAF's three goals in the third were not enough and the Mavericks won 5-3 completing the first ever sweep of Alaska in Fairbanks.
Last Week
UNO split the two-game series with Ferris State. Friday the Mavs fell 5-1 to the Bulldogs and Sunday afternoon senior goaltender Eric Aarnio led the team to a 2-0 shutout of FSU.
Coming Up
The Mavericks will travel to South Bend, Ind. for a road series against Notre Dame. The game on Friday will start at 6:35 p.m. CST and the Saturday game starts at 6:05 p.m. CST.
