Del Grosso's 2 Goals Lift Mavs Past Alaska

Defenseman Ed Del Grosso's second goal of the game, late in the third period on a power play, lifted the Mavericks to a 4-3 Central Collegiate Hockey Association win over Alaska in front of 6,022 at Qwest Center Omaha Friday night.
The teams will conclude their two-game series at 7:05 Saturday night. UNO is now 5-5-0 on the year and improved to 4-5-0 in the CCHA, while Alaska dropped its seventh straight and dipped to 0-7-0 and 0-5-0.
UNO had to battle back from a pair of two-goal deficits to earn its second straight win.
The Nanooks claimed a 2-0 lead in the first on an even-strength goal by Derek Classen at 8:27 and a power play marker by Nathan Lawrence two minutes later.
Del Grosso's first of the night from just outside the crease at 4:28 of the second sliced the margin in half. Jeric Agosta and Tomas Klempa drew the assists. But the Nanooks answered with a goal by Dustin Sather at 12:48 to regain a two-goal lead, 3-1.
Brandon Scero got that back just 64 seconds later, scoring from the slot on assists by Matt Ambroz and Bill Bagron. Bryan Marshall tied the game with his third of the year less than three minutes later out of scramble in front of the net. Dan Charleston and Eric Olimb got the assists.
Just 32 seconds after Alaska's Tyler Eckford got the gate for hooking, Scero and Mick Lawrence worked the puck to Del Grosso on the left point. His long shot beat goaltender Chad Johnson for his third of the year at 14:51.
Aarnio, who blanked Ferris State Sunday for his first CCHA win, turned aside 19 shots by the Nanooks. Johnson made 33 saves as UNO held a 37-22 advantage in shots on goal.
