Mavericks Fall To Michigan 3-2

OMAHA, Neb. - Michigan goalkeeper Billy Sauer turned away 28 UNO shots as the visiting Wolverines stole a victory from the Mavericks, 3-2, in the final period Saturday night in front of a crowd of 8,047 at the Qwest Center Omaha.
The loss drops UNO's record to 1-4-0 overall and 0-4-0 in Central Collegiate Hockey Association play heading into their series at Ohio State next week. Michigan, ranked No. 3 in college hockey, is now 7-1-0 and 4-0-0.
Michigan's Carl Hagelin scored the game-winning goal from traffic in front of the net at 17:07 of the third to secure the win for the Wolverines, who were outshot by the Mavericks, 30-21.
Michigan jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead on an even-strength goal by Kevin Porter just 5:38 into the game and a power-play score by Louie Caporusso at 8:13.
UNO came back to tie the game in the second. Mick Lawrence fired his fourth of the season past Sauer on a four-on-three power play just 85 seconds into the period. Bryan Marshall and Alain Goulet drew assists on the goal.
Freshman Blake Martin knotted the game at 2-all with his first collegiate goal at 10:12 of the second. Rich Purslow got the lone assist on the play.
Hagelin's goal at 17:07 of the third period put Michigan on top for good, while Sauer shut the door on the Mavericks, turning away a last-second barrage of shots from right in front of the net.
UNO goes on the road next week, traveling to Columbus, Ohio, to face CCHA foe Ohio State. Face off for the Thursday-Friday series is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CST each night.
